Have a large VB6 application (over 1 million lines of code) that needs to be converted so that it runs in a browser.
I believe the way to accomplish this is to run the VB through the wizard to convert to VB.Net, and that to make the VB.Net run in a browser we need to create ASP.net pages to call the VB.Net application.
Question 1: Is the above correct? i.e. does VB.net require asp.net pages as a front end to run in a browser over the internet? or does vb.net, through some mechanism I don't understand, have the capability to run in a browser?
Question 2:
I see a lot of links on the web for a product called WinformstoWeb that seems to create asp forms from your vb code (description below)? However, it seems like it is no longer available for sale. Is there a smilar tool to create ASP from VB screens?
| WinFormsToWeb? 1.0
"WinFormsToWeb takes Visual Basic .NET applications and automatically converts them to ASP.NET. If you are moving from Visual Basic 6.0 to VB.NET, this tool allows you to web enable your applications. WinFormsToWeb is fully integrated with the .NET IDE and allows you to replicate most of the functionality of your Windows Forms such as menus. WinFormsToWeb supports the controls, ActiveX and features most commonly used by VB6 programmers. The appearance of the resulting Web Forms after the conversion looks very similar to the original VB.NET application and complete documentation is generated." |
PS> Rewritting the application from scratch is not an option.
