We are looking for a function to match dissimilar databases. Looking for a function to use in MS Access, MS Excel or MySQL that can act as a fuzzy join. We are presented with 2 databases, without a key to join them. We want the function to start with the descriptions in the first list, compare that description with each of the descriptions in the second list, giving each comparison a score based on similarity and returning the best match. The strings are descriptions without structure so the similarity should be based on a number or algorithms to achieve the best match. Levenshtein Distance, Longest Common Character Sequence, Significant Character and Phonetic Matches just to name a few. The final match score should be based on a weighted average of the individual functions. Attached is some algorithms put together by George Brown and obtained in the public domain to start off with. The function needs to efficient as the master database to match to has over 400,000 entries. A typical database to match to would consist of around 30,000 entries

Hello , By looking at Your project Description I think you are looking are more of what we call "Regular Expressions" in programming world. I am still going through Requirements Doc that you have posted but before I can come to any judgement , I would like to see some samples of input and output that you expect. I can also see that You have very rich code that you have posted here. This makes me assume that you may already have some kind of software or a programming knowledge that helped you to come to this point. I would like to know more and Then we can start the project. Hi, Approach: I am good in excel and vba. I can write logic which can be implemented in Excel but will not be compatible with access or sql. I am working as Lead Pricing Analyst in a Fortune 500 MNC.
