I have a site currently running on Drupal 8.8.6 that needs to be updated to the most recent D8 version (as of this posting, that is 8.9.4). There are contributed modules that need to be updated as well. Normally, this would not be a huge deal, but this site is not running with Composer. It was originally on its first host, but it had to move to a different host because they couldn't manage Drupal adequately. After the move, I believe Composer was available (Siteground), but modules were not updated using it (they were updated using the GUI). Now, the site doesn't recognize if modules need updating in the GUI if they were originally installed with Composer (I believe that's why). So, two things need to happen: 1) The site needs to be moved over to using Composer on Siteground and 2) Drupal core and contrib modules need to be updated. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions.
