Character Creation and Animation

So I've started doing these collaborations with Broadway performers where we post Broadway content re-imagined. It's a passion project, trying to bring attention to the importance of the arts, collaboration, and to keep people engaged while theatres are closed. My current project is from the musical Waitress, a song called It Only Takes a Taste by Sara Bareilles (you could listen on YouTube). In the song, the characters speak of their past and/or compare their feelings to imagery. And I would love to bring those moments into animation to show the audience their inner thoughts. Here's how it looks on paper. Approximately 4 characters - 1 man who resembles lead actor 1 woman who resembles the lead actress 1 younger version of the lead female (and her mom, but i envision only a torso maybe? You'll see below.) 1 additional waitress who looks similar, but different, to the lead actress Scene 1: approx 12-14 seconds, bringing lyrics to life, showing a waitress (who reminds the man of the lead actress) and acting out the bits in the song (highlighting nice teeth, small hands, pushing a plate of “goodies” towards him, man's back toward camera?) Man's lyrics: She was a waitress at a shop I used to frequent quite a lot Nice teeth, small hands, snuck me goodies, I couldn't afford them. She was sweet to me. Reminds me of you. Scene 2: approx 12 seconds, again bringing the lyrics to life, concentrating on the past waitress but maybe the pie transforms into a Shakespeare scroll of some sort? Open to interpretation here - Man's Lyrics: She'd bake the pies fresh every day, like you I guess, but I must say If pies were books, yours would be Shakespeare's letters You remind me of her, but...better Scene 3: approx :12 seconds - the lead actress now is having a flashback of baking with her mom. I envision a younger, child version of the lead actress, maybe stepping on a stool to the counter, seeing only the torso of the mother as the child looks on. Mom could be mixing something in a bowl, takes the whisk out, lets the child taste it - big smile. Female Lyrics: That reminds me of a thing we would say Me and my mama in the kitchen when we'd bake She'd say, "Jenna, you can tell the whole story with a taste" Scene 4: approx. :30 seconds - the lead man again is singing about his experience with tasting her pies. I envision him seated at a diner bar, being lifted off of the stool and taken up into the clouds by maybe "scent waves" - twirling him around, watching pie ingredients fly by him. Maybe he eventually gets turned to sit on the scent wave, floating, and watching the pie (in the sky) being created, not by anyone in particular, just all the ingredients circling and entering a pie pan or a bowl - ultimately to become this masterpiece of a pie: Man's Lyrics: I must say it felt like I was carried away, intoxicated Made me escape the room I was in I can't help but wonder how your hands must have felt creating such a masterful thing Scene 5: approx. :10 – the lead man and woman circle that same masterpiece of a pie, looking sweetly at one another, and kind of perch themselves on top of it, looking at each other almost flirtatiously…maybe their backs turned from one another, but keep glancing over at the other? Heart bursts? Both Singing: It only takes a taste when you know it's good Sometimes one bite is more than enough... None of the animated characters are speaking/singing - just acting out what the human actors are singing, as if we see their thoughts. Meant to be sweet, somewhat fluid not overly cartoony. This is purely a passion project I’m doing. I don’t have a soaring budget - some scenes can be cut to help with cost. But I want to be upfront - and also want to respect the time and work you would put into this. Probably ideal for a newer animation professional or student looking to bulk their portfolio - but happy to talk to whomever may be interested.
