Custom Search bar and custom search results for Wordpress

I have a wordpress site I am going to use as an online directory, I am about to download the Business Directory Plugin for my wordpress site as this does what I desire as each business that will list using this plugin on my site can enter there postcode and place business in relevant catogries I have placed on the site. However the search capabilities and look of the search bar are very basic.
I need the below:
1. Search bar looks similar to yellow pages search bar (but in orange colour).
2. Search bar will have a similar look to yellow pages with two areas in the search bar i.e "What are you looking for" and "Enter the suburb or postcode" when they do this i.e. enter tiles and in postcode 2077 I need the search results to be returned as follows. If there is a business that has listed in the postcode searched then that business and any others in that area are returned however if no business has listed in that postcode then any businesses with a postcode that is within lets say 40 kilometers from the postcode entered are then returned.
Please only respond if you have the experience to do this as I have had this done for me previously for a good rate however it was about two years ago and unfortunatly I do not have the freelancers details anymore.
