## BIO
**CV of Brook Novak**
**Qualifications**
**NCEA Level 1**
**NCEA Level 2**
**NCEA Level 3**
**National Certificate of Computing Level 3**
Throughout forth form I took an extra curriculum course at Flexible Learning Systems on programming. From there I carried on extra studies and in 2004 I complete the National Certificate in Computing.
**Current doing Bachelor of Computer Science and Mathematics + Honors**
Majoring Software Development. In my second year now. This course is more than just leaning how to implement code, it has taught me lot about planning/designing projects, testing, maintaining tidy code and maximizing flexibility in my applications.
**Awards / Achievements**
**ICT Student Rep in 2003
**In sixth form I put myself forward to become New Plymouth Boys High School’s ICT Representative, where I presented fellow student’s suggestions and comments at board meetings.
**Represented New Plymouth Boys High School at the Telecommunications Conference in 2003**
I delivered a speech on the future of fast internet accompanied by a power point presentation. The school and I received a lot of positive response on my presentation so the school headmaster printed my speech in the school letter (included with CV).
**Computer Science Scholarship in 2004 at Waikato University**
At the end of my seventh form year I attended a three hour theory examination followed by a six hour practical examination (creating applications/models via computer programming) for a scholarship at the University of Waikato. In late November I was notified that I received the scholarship. From this the university has offered me a job over the summer holidays working with teams of software developers on various projects.
**Outstanding Performance in New Zealand Technology Scholarship**
In 2004 I worked on a technology folio where I had to design and code a game engine for a client who was overseas and compare/contrast the outcome with another technological outcome I had previously done.
**Top Student in computing 2003-2004**
For two consecutive years I was the top student in computing/technology and received the Warren Moetara Trophy.
**Student Rep for “Programming 2†paper at Waikato University in 2005**
In the second semester of my first year at university I put myself forward to be a student representative of a computer programming paper where I reported students suggestions and comments in computer science board meetings.
**Experience**
I am an undergrad at Waikato University, so I have had no real commercial experience in the field of software development. However I have developed many projects of my own and with teams of other programmers.
**General Statement**
I have been programming for 5 consecutive years. I am very passionate about programming, I really enjoy the diverse challenges the come from this industry. In my opinion, programming is an art; I like to be very creative with my projects and I don’t settle for anything mediocre.
I am a New Zealander who is a very hard worker. I have ambitions to having a leading role in a large software company.
## Area of Expertise
**Operating systems:**
***Windows
***I mostly work with windows for developing my projects. I know my way around the windows API very well.
***Linux***
I have worked under Linux developing Java programs, windows is still my all round preference.
**Languages:**
***C / C++***
I am most fluent in C++ more than any other programming language I have learnt.
***Java***
I enjoy using java, it is so tidy!
***Visual Basic***
I find that visual basic is great for developing the front-end for SQL databases or quick no-brainer window applications, otherwise I prefer Java over VB.
***SQL***
I spend more time designing than scripting SQL databases…
***XML***
I only use XML for supporting my applications.
***HTML***
I know the basics of html (what’s the use these days?).
* * *
I am also familiar with many common developer IDE’s and tools.
I have a lot of knowledge of programming with 3D Graphics (specifically OpenGL) and game engines’ / structures’.
