Production of 1000 tons/day of Biodiesel from Cotton Seed Oil

A Process of transesterification was developed to produce biodiesel from cotton seed oil. The free fatty acids (FFAs) and Fatty acid in the oil were converted to methyl esters using solid acid prepared by calcining Sulphated zirconia as catalyst. It is good catalyst even for raw material with higher concentration of free fatty acid. The reaction was carried out using 1:9 oil to methanol ratio, 3.5 wt.% acid catalyst in oil.
