15 years in IT, specializing in Linux, Apache, mail server systems, networks and security. I started building web sites in the 90s, then moved to system administration for everyone from small startups to multinational corporations. Based out of Philadelphia these days, my focus is on security. I mostly work with small-to-medium sized Linux based businesses-- helping them with network, database (MySQL), hosting, SSL, server patching, web-application hardening, vulnerability testing and other security issues. While I can and do use control panels like Plesk and cPanel/WHM, I am a command line person at heart (bash, zsh). Not a programmer but I do lite scripting in bash, python, perl and javascript. I love coming into a completely unfamiliar network and hosts and tracking down a problem through the whole system.
Security Contractor
A mid-sized ISP on the West Coast hired me to investigate their Exim mail server because it had been sending spam. Tracking the spam through their logs, I discovered that their Debian web server and home to over 400 client sites had been hacked. I removed the hackers and closed the hole they used to get in. I also contacted the major blacklists and had their ip address removed. They retained my services to test and harden several other machines as well as setup an improved monitoring and alert system.
