We need rsyslogd as a syslog service/server In its configuration, we need to set a template for the source data from firewall. It looks something like this: template (name="ciscofirewall" type="list") { property(name="timestamp" dateFormat="mysql") constant(value=",") property(name="timegenerated" dateFormat="mysql") constant(value=",") property(name="hostname") constant(value=",") property(name="fromhost-ip") constant(value=",") property(name="syslogtag") property(name="msg") constant(value="\n") } And in the processing script there will be enough one command with calling external python program: action(type="omprog" binary="/path/to/python/script" template="ciscofirewall") This script will receive line by line messages from the firewall to its stdin. It simply must parse this string and output to the cvs file. The script is launched by a rsyslogd daemon in a single instance and it is permanently in memory.
