. A form for your thesis and outline is attached and should be completed and turned in on the above date. A preliminary Works Cited page or working bibliography is also suggested but not required. You are encouraged to discuss your thesis and outline with the instructor before this date. 3. The paper should be 5-8 pages in length (250 words per page), typed double space (not including notes and Works Cited). 4. Integrate at least two SOL articles with your other sources. You may use one or more articles from the chapter on your issue and one or more articles from one of the media chapters. The other sources should come from library databases or academic type journals or actual books and journals (paper copies!). One (only one) article may be a thoughtfully and carefully chosen article from the internet. Check the legitimacy of any internet source before using it. At least six sources are required. 5. Follow MLA guidelines in typing your paper and in citing sources. 6. When you turn in your paper, also turn in photocopies of all directly quoted, paraphrased, or summarized sections from sources that are not in your textbook. If the source is from a database or internet site, please print a copy of it. You may turn in a copy of an entire article, but only the pages that you actually quote, paraphrase, or summarize in your paper are required. 7. Highlight all direct quotations on the copies; circle paraphrases or indirect quotations 8. Organize the copies of the articles or the specific pages of the articles in the order of their first reference in the paper and clearly identify them the same way as they are listed in in-text citations, usually by the author’s last name or the title of the work. Be sure that page numbers are clearly visible on the copies. 9. Attach to the Works Cited page, photocopies of title and/or copyright pages of all book or non-internet sources (except your textbook), organized in alphabetical order by the author’s last name or by the title of the work (the same as the Works Cited). Be sure that the complete title, the names of author(s), editor(s), and copyright dates are shown on the copies. Include a copy of the identifying information for all internet sources (URL, author’s/editor’s names(s), other information, as available), organized in the same order as the works are listed on the Works Cited page. 10. Papers without copies of sources attached will not be accepted. Failure to organize as indicated above will result in the lowering of the final grade on the research paper by as much as 30 points. 11. Do not attempt to do more than you can focus on in a 5-8-page paper. The focus of the paper is very important.
