I have a php script which searches other websites. It does this by retrieveing the page(s) from the selected websites (using sockets), extracting the required information from such pages and then presenting them in a formatted way to match my website.
The problem I have is that if several websites are to be searched, the script can take quite a few seconds to load. I therefore require a page to show directly after the user submits which states "Your Search Is In Progress". Once the search has completed and all data retreived the user will then be forwarded to the results.
There are 2 problems which need to be addressed:
1) How to speed up the retrieval of pages AND how to ensure that each retrival takes no more than X seconds (if longer the retirval should be stopped)
2) How to show a Search In Progress page to the user and determine when to forward them to the results.
I am looking for a fast resolution to this problem.
