40622 phpbb birthday hack problem

l have installed the phpbb birthday hack on a clients forum, and everything seemed to be working ok, except we have just discovered that new users cannot register and are getting the following error message: Could not insert data into users table DEBUG MODE SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax.
