Bottom Line: Our non-profit organization is looking for an individual or group of individuals to develop a custom "My Yahoo"-type Mambo component that would be used as a home page portal for our future intranet. We will be accepting proposals until midnight Sunday June 26th. Background: Our organization has recently moved over to Mambo as our platform of choice for our public web sites. We have been very happy with Mambo and are starting to develop a good skill-set for working with it. We (the website team) are now tasked with the job of finding a software platform on which to run our internal intranet server. Since many intranet-in-a-box offerings are very expensive, and our functional requirements are not that complex, we are starting to lean toward a customized version of Mambo to do the job. However, we need to decide this quickly because our budgets are due by next week and we have to have an idea of the cost. In fact, to be considered your proposal needs to be submitted by midnight Sunday June 26 as we must have a budget number by the following Monday. We are ourselves programmers and familiar with Mambo and have some ideas about how we would do this projects ourselves. However, since we are already very busy with our public web sites we simply do not have the time resources to develop the following functionality ourselves and as such we have decided to outsource it. Project Description: We would like to use Mambo for our organization's internal intranet. One feature that is very important to us, since our users live and work in distinct areas of the globe, is to be able to have a front page that is customizable by each user to reflect intranet content that is relevant to them personally. This would be something similar to My Yahoo, where a user has two or three areas to work with and can choose to populate with whatever modules are available (eg. news from their region, latest additions, etc). These modules would just be regular Mambo modules accessed in a new way by this custom component and its associated functions. Upon first entering the main page, they would be displayed a default configuration (just like My Yahoo when you are not logged in), but upon login in would instead see their customized home page (and possible even the theme of their choice). They would also have access to a page that would allow them to configure their home page with a series of list boxes (available vs already selected for each area). Also required will be basic documentation of the component including a description of the functions used, extensive in-line comments, and a general workflow description. Providing that all functional requirements are completed as requested, we will not need a maintenance phase as we have the resources in-house to do that. Project Timeframe: Initial Proposal: June 26, 2005 Selection of Contractor: July 1, 2005 Detailed Specifications: September 1, 2005 Beta 1 version: November 1, 2005 Beta 2 version: December 1, 2005 Version 1 with full testing (completed project): January 1, 2006 This timeline is constructed with the understanding that the programmer will be working only part-time on the project as the scope of this project is not very large. If we start now we have plenty of time to complete it by 2006 without being stressed. Selection Process: We will select the applicants for this project based on their initial proposal and proposed fees. This does not have to be a detailed technical proposal (although that would be acceptable as well), but rather a solid description of how they would solve the problem and any additional ideas or insights they have that concern the project. Since those reviewing the proposals are programmers and familiar with Mambo, please feel free to use technical terms. We will not necessarily select the cheapest proposal but rather the one that shows the best grasp of the problem and how it might be solved, while keeping the cost reasonable. We will not require official support as we have the resources in-house to make corrections and modifications. Also, we are open to different types of contract proposals. For example, if you think you can market such a component, you could retain rights and adjust your price accordingly. Please include all rights and licensing plans in your proposal.
