Modification to existing Java FX program (raspberry pi indexer)

We have an existing Java Fx program that indexes a stepper motor a distance based on a count then stops. A raspberry pi touch screen allows the operator to set count and speed. One cycle consist of an input (foot Pedal) which starts the motor, as the motor turns, a photo eye counts product, when the count is reached, the motor stops, cycle complete. Two modes exist, Manual and Automatic, in automatic, an input from the foot pedal completes one cycle, then waits for another input. We would like to add a toggle on the touch screen (settings page) to change the cycle trigger from internal to external. This will change automatic mode only, manual mode will remain the same. When set to external, the system will make one cycle every time an input from the external trigger (foot pedal) is received. This is the current automatic state (works great). NEW PART****** When set to internal trigger, the system needs to cycle at a rate as set by the operator. Scope: Add toggle button on settings page to switch between internal and external trigger. Add input box (cycle rate) in cycles per minute from 1 to 300. Modify the code to add the described functionality while maintaining the integrity of the existing functionality. Deliver fully editable code (currently done in Neatbeans), support us through testing. NDA required
