Hello. How big is "large"? Please state the precise size of this CSV file and the number of lines it has (so I know how many records are there). Will this be a recurring thing or an only-once import? Do you have shell access in your host? I can take another approach which won't time out if I can get shell access. PHPMyAdmin import CSV file by issuing an insert command for each line on your CSV file, which is slow and inefficient. I've dealt with this problem before and there are several approachs that can be taken depending on the available tools. Besides the one you propose and the one I already mentioned, another one could be to convert the CSV file to a single-insert SQL command which will be the most efficient way to import your data. Please send me a _schema_ dump only of your DB, a sample row from your CSV file and tell me the answers to my first questions. Looking forward to working with you.

I can create a java program that will read from the csv file and convert the data into insert statements in an sql file. Please give me a sample file so that i can demonstrate this. A MySQL dump is nothing else but a SQL script to generate the schema and add the data (INSERT) in your database. The .sql dump file can be easily generated by developing a small application that would inject the necessary commands to create (if necessary) the tables, and to insert the data (from the CSV file) in them. I have a lot of experience with both file operations and databases, such as mySQL. Not only will I convert your file, but I can guide you through the process of importing the data into your database. If the file is very large, converting it into sql may not work (the import could still timeout or fail for another reason, such as reaching a memory limit). In that case, I can either try to adjust your server settings (if you have access) or write a script for you to take care of the import.
