based on what i understand from the description there will be a central unit that will monitor few object's movement. how "The Device" which i assume is central monitoring unit need to be? portable (wireless) or stationary (wired to some sensors and readers) if the device is portable then it can communicate using RF transceiver, which will be the cheapest way. GPS data can be reported to the central unit through RF channel or if the range is large enough it can be done using GSM module like u-blox u280. if you like me to work on this project please share more details. Hi, I'm electric engineer with plenty experience in pcbs design and prototyping. the setup of the system will be based on ble4.0 technology. The setup of the system is really similar like the GPS system, but not exactly the same. Two kinds of devices, The tracked nodes: will send periodically packets with their id, like blue 4.0 beacon packets. And 4 ( or more )receivers will calculate the distance based on the strength of the signal. The receiver need to be placed in a known position, so the location of the tracked nodes can be triangulated relative to them. This position can be reconfigured ad hoc. More details , like the area of tracking coverage, the speed of the tracked objects, or a more detailed description of the scene will be needed to validate if this approach is the right one.
