The actual conversion of pdf to a text/ePub format is really a mechanical process. It can be done with modern software. I use the best on the market. Where the work (and the real cost) comes in is in the post-editing process. If the books are relatively new and the pdfs are clear, little work will be needed. Of course, even if there is little correction needed, every page and table will need to be carefully gone through to ensure accuracy with the original. I'm really unable to say at this stage how much I'd charge because I'd need to see the pdfs themselves. So, my bid would likely be adjusted either way. I'd certainly be interested in a trial run. I can even do a few pages for free, so as to get an idea of the whole project. I can also read German - so there is no problem if the books are in German.

Hi, We have vast experience in converting source PDF / Indesign / MS Word files into ePub and mobi Kindle and have done about 350 ebooks in last 2 years for overseas publishers. Our costing for ePub and mobi is $1 per page for ePub + $ 0.5 per page for mobi (total $1.5 USD per page). It includes cost for unlimited revisions / unlimited figures / unlimited maps / unlimited tables / unlimited graphics. So, for your 236 page test book to be converted into epub - we would charge $236 and would take 3 working days to accomplish this job. Generally, we follow the following guidelines/instructions (check-points) before delivering any ePub / mobi output files: 1. Check that table of contents bookmarks on the left-hand side of the screen are all present, have correct titles, and link to the correct places in the book 2. Check the links in the table of contents inside the text to make sure that they are all present and take you to the correct location in the text. 3. Scroll through the entire text and spot-check the links for endnotes, figures & tables etc. are present and are working correctly. Also, if there are websites referenced in the notes then spot-check to see if the links take you to the correct website. 4. Check for all tables, figures, and maps right placement. 5. Scroll through the entire text looking for any style problems--e.g. weird spacing, truncated text, text that is run together, etc. Basically, anything that doesn't seem to be displaying properly or seems to not follow the style of the print book. 6. We check and ensured all the content / data for 100% content accuracy. 7. We also parsed file for errors in Pagina epub checker. 8.
