Gardening Robot – Slow clover leaf cutter (clover pattern recognition)
I need a miniature gardening robot to cut the leaves of the clover on my grass. I have planted the most wonderful lawn a year ago and the clover is killing it from the one side. The theory is that if I can build a robot that would cut the leaves off the clover, then the grass, which seems to be dying underneath would grow back. Hopefully the clover strings and roots will die (if you feel you can root them out with the robot, then I will be happy) The robot does not have to work very fast but rather needs to be rather light and robust and accurate. Wheels are not necessarily the best way of moving it around, but could work well. The robot does not have to be waterproof at this stage, but water resistant would be nice. There is always a bit of moist on grass and electronics and water just don’t seem to go together that well.
The robot would need to recognise the shape and orientation of the clover leaf (see picture to get idea) and cut it off. So some sort of simple pattern recognition would be needed. You would need to write careful instruction on how to assemble the hardware.
You will be responsible to write the Arduino code for the robot. You would also be responsible for selecting and designing the hardware. You must use easily available and cheap as possible components to make this robust little guy.
