Project description

The goal is to create an office Add-in for Outlook that allows the creation and management of

comments, linked to a particular resource (e-mail, contact, etc). The comments should be stored

and retrieved through an adapter from either a local database system, or a network database

system. This comments function should be available to multiple users in a network at the same

time.

1. Design an application concept and component overview for this project

2. Compare database systems that could be used for this and list pro/contra. Client will make a

decision which system should be used based on that

Tasks

3. implement a prototype system that works with one (local) database and allows one user to

create comments

4. implement the complete system, working with different database systems (local or network)

and allows multiple users

Technical details:

- Comments should be associated to different resource items. In the beginning, this will only be

emails, but the system should be extendable to other resources like contacts.

- The resources must be identifiable on different systems (eg. the same email, send to two

different email accounts/computers, must be identified as the same email from the system, so

that both user can see each others comments when they use the comment system.

- The comments should be displayed in a dockable sidebar and displayed, when an user clicks on

an specific email.

- The comments should be associated to a specific user (who created the comment) and only be

editable by that user. Furthermore, the time the comment was created at should be saved.

- The system must be able to handle new comments from multiple users on a specific ressource

at the same time.

- There should be an user role management. Regular users can only edit and delete their own

comments. Admin users can edit and delete all comments.
