1. Using the supplied case study and supplied set of relations, perform each of the specified programming tasks in order. The tasks are at the end of this assessment brief. You should attempt each task as follows:
2. Read the task with care – be sure what you are doing.
3. Using your Oracle/SQL*Plus account, write the code to satisfy the specified task.
4. Take a clear screenshot of the working code, the output or confirmation message (such as TABLE CREATED) and your user ID. You can display your user ide by typing the command: SHOW USER at the SQL> command line.
5. Each screenshot must contain your user ID to prove it is your own work. (see above)
6. Copy this screenshot into your assignment document.
7. Make sure you label all screenshots so that we know which task it refers to.
8. Then annotate each screenshot with a brief explanation of what it does.
9. Move onto the next task and repeat the above steps.
10. Once all tasks are complete, make sure the module name, assignment name, your name and ID are on the front page.
11. Submit the assignment through Moodle.
Case Study – Black Country Bespoke Furniture (BCBFL)
Black Country Bespoke Furniture Limited is a company based in Stourbridge in Worcestershire, which specialises in manufacturing and selling bespoke furniture to the domestic home market. It makes furniture such as tables, chairs, wardrobes, beds and so on, to order.
A Customer places an order with the company for a particular product, such as a dining room table. The Customer Order consists of the customer’s name, the customer’s address, the product(s) ordered, the quantity of each product ordered, the order date, the order status (e.g. pending, confirmed, dispatched, paid), and the total cost of the order. It is identified by a unique Customer Order Number. The Customer Order is then sent to the manufacturing department which then makes the product from a Works Order, using standard stock items.
A Works Order consists of what Product is required, how many are required, when they are required, when they have been completed, the individual Stock Items needed to make the Product (for example, a dining room table consists of a table top and four table legs, and a dining room chair consists of a chair back, a chair seat and four chair legs) and the instructions for making the Product. It is identified by a unique Works Order Number.
To be able to process Customer Orders and Works Orders, BCBFL’s ordering system also needs to store information about Customers, Products and Stock Items.
