CGI Sessionid

I'm venturing into new territory as a website designer, and need help with implementing Perl's CGI::Session module, assigning each visitor to a customer's website with a unique 32-digit session ID, and creating a cookie on the visitor's computer, which includes retaining the state of their shopping cart for a set period of time.

I've tried a few approaches to doing this, and I'm getting nowhere. Bids are welcome from programmers that have successfully implemented this functionality.
