Customized System Monitoring Project

My company has a need to implement a customized system monitoring application based on either an open source monitoring framework (NetSaint) or something like it (Quest Big Brother). Simply defined, our company has deployed red hat linux systems at our customer sites attached to the Internet that need to be monitored. Many of these systems are behind firewalls and/or are DHCP systems attached to dsl or cable modems so a "polling" methodology won't work. We have been looking at "Big Brother" by Quest software (free download) that uses a "push" methodology. Initially, we need to monitor the following: Connectivity (is the system talking attached to the Internet) Major System resources including CPU, Mem and file system utilization Average ping latency between the remote linux box and our central monitoring site. We will provide two linux systems that you can remotely access. One is a sample remote server and the other is a system for you to use as a "console" to run the monitoring sw. Successful completion will be measured by having our sample remote server functioning behind a firewall providing monitoring information defined above to the console. When user defined threstholds are exceeded, we would like some visual represenation that there is a situation. We would like an install package and documentation so we can then roll out this basic monitoring to our 50-100 systems. Successful completion of this project will lead to an "inside track" on extending the monitoring to monitor our custom application's parameters. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform Linux Read Hat 8 or 9 Preferably Quest Big Brother or equivalent
