Ajax search box on a php website that uses an xml-file as data source

Replace an dropdown menu with 400+ items with an ajax seach box.
The website, [login to view URL], is written in php.
The data source is prefereably an xml-file that contains serveral properties for each item. If performance is a problem on slower clients with the xml-file as source filtering must be done server side with mysql/php.
The search box must be able to filter on any property related to each item.
The result must be presented in a dynamic size flyout overlay.
It must be clearly stated on what property the the result is displayed.
