Hello, let me first answer the questions you asked at the bottom of the description: Chat system - I would recommend integrating one of the pre-made chat systems. Trying to develop fully stable chat from scratch is time consuming since requires LOT of testing and bug fixing. Even the facebook chat is not always stable. Hosting - not really a problem, I can even host it on my partner's dedicated server that he is renting. Similar projects - okay here I won't lie and tell that I did something similar when I did not. But if you are software engineer you know that every internet app is using a database, so the concept is always the same, just the subject is different. So more important would be constructing a solid relational database and most importantly determine ALL of the site features before even starting with the database, so later there is no need for altering it.
