I need a Mac OS App prototype with simple features as described below:
1. It must be distributable in Mac’s App Store.
2. It must be developed in Objective C. No swift please.
3. It must be a Menu bar application. An icon should be displayed on the Menu bar when the App is running. And no icon should be displayed in the Dock.
4. Left click on the App’s Icon (on the Menu bar) should open a View displaying an image by playing a soundtrack. User can change the image and the soundtrack in the App’s preferences. Left clicking again on the menu bar icon should close the Image; otherwise image should be closed automatically after specific time period, by default 5 seconds; the duration should be configurable in Preferences. -1 for infinite duration.
5. Right click on the App’s icon (On the Menu bar) should open a menu with three options. i) About the app, ii) Preferences and iii) Quit
6. In the App’s Preferences, user must be able to change the image, soundtrack and duration.
Note: This is a prototype we would like to see it in action for an upcoming large project targeting both Mac and Windows. Please let us know if certain functionalities described above can’t be implemented. Upon successful delivery of the above prototype, you may be awarded for the implementation of complete project that might require two or three developers.
Hi. I am an OS X system and UI developer.
I've been working with OS X desktop development for over 6 years, and I am (potentially) interested in working on your project.
I can create the demo application for you.
Regarding the 4 and 5: By default the Menu bar icon behaves the same way whether the icon is clicked with the "left mouse button" or using Control+click/right button. For the Mac users it may not be obvious that they should click with the right mouse button to get the menu.
However the behavior you are asking is possible to implement (in a somewhat "hacky" way). It will not be providing the "Mac experience" for the user - I do not know any Mac apps that work like this.
I assume you want to copy a Windows application that shows an icon in System Tray - most windows apps behave just like you described.
I made several applications without icons, 2 of which are menu applications that are available in the Mac app store (eg. called 'Screen Snake'). I communicate fast and easily, have years of experience with Objective-C/Cocoa/Mac development, and am a flexible worker.
