1. The App is running mostly on the background and send current location info to a remote server. The format would be json: {"latitude":xxx,"longitude":xxx, "speed": xxx, "accuracy":xxx, "trackingMode":[gps ,cell] } over HTTP. 2. By default, it only uses the cell based location ( low accuracy, but low battery consumption). However, depending on the response from the server, it will switch to GPS based location tracking ( high accuracy and high battery consumption). Similarly it switch back to cell based location tracking if receiving a different server response code. 3. When the app is in GPS tracking mode, it will send a valid speed info to server when in cell tower based tracking mode, the speed can be just 0 4. if tap on the app icon, it simply shows the current GPS based location 5. This only only work with IOS v4.0 and above. so make sure you do some research on location based background running app.
