I have worked with perl in the past. If you really say that the script is very simple, then it should not be a problem. I would like to take a look at the script and understand where is the problem (from the data collection on a website or into the mysql insertion). Also, if modifying the script and debugging it takes a lot of time, I can probably write a new script for you in python that does the same thing.
