Create PHP Window with record filter and update ability

This is just one window from a larger web application. Need a single window that displays records based on a parameters fed to it (for testing, you need to create a way to feed in parameters then open window). Data is retrieved from mysql tables. This window allows user to add/update/select records. It includes ability to upload and assign an image to the inserted record. The window has already been designed (for look, feel and colors). the coded parts just need to be added. Once a record(s) is/are selected a text string containing record names and a list of selected id numbers are returned to the calling window. Question: On the window user rates records on scale of 1-10. Is there a way to replace nbrs with stars? so they rate by highlighting stars? There should be a debug mode where (when turned on) all info is written to a log... including db connection info.
