I wrote a Excel Scatter Chart program in Excel 2003 VBA that I need converted to a Excel Add-in that can be run as either a button in a menu or a menu item in Excel 2007 & Excel 2010. I average Office user will need to be able to install and add to menu (button or menu item) easily.
Background
I wrote a Scatter Chart program in VBA in the mid 1990s and converted it to an Excel add-in that others in my company and a few colleagues used in our analysis. The VBA application uses forms to collect info from the user on the XY Scatter Chart (X range, Y range and label range). The reason I had to build it was because you can not add a separate set of labels to the values of a XY Scatter Chart in Excel unless you do it manually. The application also allows the user to easily update existing scatters with a new data point and new label.
It has worked fine until Excel 2007. I am assuming it is a combined problem of a tougher security model and the shift to Ribbon menus, but frankly I do not have the time and my tech skills have been neglected, to figure out the fix. I have the spreadsheet and when I run the application from the spreadsheet XLS it works fine. It is the XLA that I can not run the way I used to run because I can’t see it and can no longer call the program from a menu button.
Before, I would have people drop the XLA on their hard drive. Copy down the path to the file. When in Excel they would add a Macro Button (I prefer smiley face) to a menu bar and assign the button to run the application. Example
'C:\temp\programs\excel\scat\[login to view URL]'!Goscat
I am an expert in Microsoft Excel & Word services & well aware of your current problem. Please consider my bid & give me a chance to solve your problem ASAP.
You can use Visual Basic 6 (addin type project) for this purpose. So, it will have much change considering it has the similar syntax with your current VBA
There are two ways for presenting addin in Excel: use VSTO or use Shared addin. Which one do you prefer? If VSTO, then you need to have VSTO runtime installed while shared addin you dont need it. So, you need it presented as a ribbon button which will execute your VBA application? Or your VBA application will be totally converted to addin? So, it will be executed internally within addin? Let me know.
