I want to trigger a flash bulb device by shorting 2 pins. I want this to be triggered by the output of a camera (Canon 5D Mark I). When the camera fires, it normally works by shorting the hot shoe. When I connect the camera directly to the flash, there is apparently a voltage that passes into the camera, damaging the camera. So I need a switch that will not pass current into the camera. It could be powered by a battery or an adapter or the +10V or +15V sources provided on the D-connector.

i'm well experienced in circuit designs.. we can easily isolate the both systems through a opto-coupler or a relay..

True, old fashioned flash (Unomat, for example) has about 200V at sync connector due to circuit design. To prevent 5D from electrical damage there are many simple DIY solution. The most expensive elements are optocoupler and triac - less that $10 even if you buy them separately on eBay. The circuit consumes minimum power and can be powered from separate battery, adapter. You can integrate it into your flash bulb device. I will be glad to share my experience in photography and electronics. Best regards, Ivan
