AWN Indicator3 Applet fix for Ubuntu 14.04-based OS

We are the developers of Zorin OS ([login to view URL]), an Ubuntu-based distribution aimed at newcomers to Linux that is currently ranked as the number 9 distro on DistroWatch ([login to view URL]). On the desktop-side we are using the AWN panel with the AWN Indicator3 Applet to display the system (Ayatana) indicators as per this screenshot from Zorin OS 8 (the latest version of Zorin OS, based on Ubuntu 13.10): [login to view URL] We are currently developing Zorin OS 9 based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Unfortunately the Indicator3 Applet in AWN is no longer compatible with the latest version of the Ayatana indicators included in Ubuntu 14.04. After installing and adding the newest version of the AWN Indicator3 Applet to the AWN panel it only displays an empty box with the theme's background colour: [login to view URL] In order to replicate this bug please follow these steps in Ubuntu 14.04: Open the Terminal and run these commands (the AWN PPA doesn't have a trusty branch so we have to move back to saucy): add-apt-repository ppa:awn-testing/ppa cd /etc/apt/sources.list.d mv [login to view URL] [login to view URL] grep -rl trusty [login to view URL] | xargs sed -i s@trusty@saucy@g apt-get update apt-get install avant-window-navigator python-awn-extras Download and install the latest version of the AWN Indicator3 Applet (from the Zorin OS PPA) for your processor architecture: i386: [login to view URL]~zorin-os/+archive/packages/+build/5370121/ amd64: [login to view URL]~zorin-os/+archive/packages/+build/5370120/ Add the Indicator 3 Applet to the AWN panel You can find the source files for the current latest version of the AWN Indicator3 Applet here: [login to view URL]~zorin-os/+archive/packages/+files/[login to view URL] We would be very grateful if anyone could help us to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
