Build a linux command line program to remove iTunes info from mp3 ID3 tags

This project is to create a linux command line application to remove iTunes information from mp3 ID3 tags. It must only remove the iTunes info and leave all the other information untouched. It needs to support ID3 v2.2, 2.3 and 2.4. For background, this is a tiny subset of the functionalitly of a PC application called metamp3. The application will be used to clean up mp3 files used for podcasting. Using metamp3 as a reference, the linux application would only need to implement the "remove" option to specifically remove iTunPGAP, iTunNORM, and iTunSMPB from the mp3 ID3 tag and leave the rest of the ID3 tag untouched. For someone who is very familiar with linux and ID3 tags this should be a simple task.
