You are to write a 1500 word essay about ONE film, television program, animation or digital game (up to 1977), explaining why and how the chosen example exemplifies a historically significant innovation or change in screen history.

You should focus on the following three aspects of the example in your discussion:

• The text itself, explaining how the stylistic and/or technical aspects of the text led to significant innovations or changes in screen history.

• The industrial context of the text, explaining how and why the screen industry or industries were changed by the text.

• The ways in which screen audience expectations were challenged and changed by the example.

Don’t forget that your example may have had an impact on texts, industries and audiences beyond the specific form you choose. For example, an innovation in animation might have had an impact in film innovation and so on.
