According to your description, it seems that the link as hardcoded in code which need to make dynamic so furtehr when you will change the server it would not give you more trouble. If these not solve the issues then we would have to think that thereis something wrong with server and we would have to dig in more details. May the port block can create this issues but would have to investigate on it. However, you are experiene than me and you can understand that the access with the files and server is required here.
