If so, this challenge is for you! The Aftershock: NASA Shock Propagation Prediction Challenge looks for novel shock propagation prediction models that improve NASA’s ability to predict shock loads through spacecraft. If you’re up to the challenge, you could win a share of the $50,000 purse. To participate in this challenge, you must submit: 1. Your shock prediction 2. A white paper detailing: a. The model/methodology b. The speed of the model and the hardware used to run the model c. The extensibility and versatility of the model CHALLENGE OVERVIEW Engineers at NASA are working to make revolutionary improvements to aviation, expand understanding of Earth’s atmosphere, and develop technology for space exploration.Different components on the spacecraft and its payload, such as the onboard electronics, are impacted by these events and may be damaged by different frequencies of the shock spectrum. For example, electronics are more susceptible to high frequencies and structural components may be more susceptible to lower frequencies. Because of the potential damage due to the shock propagating through the spacecraft, it is important to model the propagation as closely as possible to reduce the risk of a component failure. Unfortunately, this is a difficult problem given the variety of materials onboard a spacecraft and the complicated propagation paths. NASA created standards in the early days of spaceflight based on extensive testing across structures. While these old models are better than nothing, mathematical methods and high-performance computing tools are well-suited to provide better models for shock propagation. The Aftershock Challenge provides you the opportunity to show NASA what you’ve got by showing how well you can model shock propagation through a satellite structure. PRIZES Total Purse: US $50,000 Top prizes will only be awarded to solutions that meet or exceed the minimum prediction requirement. Up to 3 prizes will be awarded to the top solvers that achieve the requirements of the challenge for a total of $50,000. The best solution will be awarded $20,000, second place will be awarded $15,000, and third place will be awarded $7,500. Up to three additional prizes will be awarded for novel approaches to the problem or solutions that have potential to advance the science of shock prediction. First place will be awarded $2,500, second place will be awarded $2,000, and third place will be awarded $1,500. Submissions that win top awards are not eligible for these prizes. Businesses who enter to get their solutions tested against the data set but are unable to provide NASA with a license to use (See IP), are eligible to be awarded one of three $500 Business Recognition Awards. All competitors that meet minimum prediction criteria will receive a certificate of participation from NASA. NASA reserves the right to negotiate licenses for additional submitted solutions. REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS Registration will be open from the launch of the challenge until the submission deadline of May 1, 2022, 5:00 PM ET. To Register for the Challenge, Teams must: 1. Sign up for an account on the Freelancer.com platform 2. Complete and submit the Registration Form Registration Forms will be reviewed for eligibility; ineligible teams will be notified and teams that meet the Challenge eligibility requirements, as listed in the Rules, may continue in the competition. Maybe we have focused too much on the weight. Weightless is the realm we need to achieve to deal with the minor impacts. #increaseprize

Hello, I have a good knowledge of the wave equation in the context of classical electrodynamics. At the time of my MSc thesis, I partially developed a (maybe) new discretization method. Now it'd be interesting to see whether my idea is applicable here as well. Yet, I never studied mechanical waves in material bodies. May you state a good reference on the theoretical background, just to point me in the right direction?
