Magento do not have any default setting to mass assign category and product. But I can make a custom script, to make this work, if you tell me which product will go to which category. So thanks in advance and happy to help you

I've done some work on M2 before. You can go into the categories themselves and add the products from a list there, if I remember correctly. You'l have to do one category at a time, but it beats opening every product. Just checked. Yeah, it's under "Products in category".
