Hi Bonjour Guten Tag, A lifelong Aston Villa fan, I love football (I play competitively here in Manila) and also work as a PHP developer, so it's an interesting project for me. Can I ask you, is this project for a public website or will this be used only be a few people as a private tool? Will you ever need to scrape a partial season? I would take the route of scraping all of the data first and then having a function that auto-scrapes once every week to get the latest results and to store these in the database. From there, you could analyse the data each time the user selects his options of which league, ranking difference and dates etc. I would use PHP/MySQL to store the data and am not yet sure which source I would use for the scraping, but there are many to choose from. I'd pick the easiest and most thorough of course. The scraping is the major part of the project, making sure it is robust and will work into the future. (I recently did a project scraping recipes from three different websites, around 30k recipes in total. I have also scraped from finance websites, overstock and also yacht listings sites) The reporting will be fairly straight forward.
