We are looking to build a business directory that will serve several Eastern European nations. I'm sure you have seen similar projects before but we are not talking about your generic, poorly built, Yellowpages derivative. We are looking more for something marrying Citysearch functionality with Google esthetics and simplicity.
The project should include at least the following: business directory with excellent data entry feature and support for different levels of user permissions, SEO support, excellent search and filter functions, different fields for different types of businesses, images with page-integrated slideshow and magnification, user ratings, comments, user community features (such as blogs and forums to discuss the businesses), ability for users to register and become part of mailing list.
The Web site should be built and optimized to accommodate some serious traffic. We have a fairly short development timeline.
After looking at our requirements, our initial thought was to go with a Drupal 6-based Web site and use both existing modules as well as to create some custom modules where the contributed modules don't exist or are lacking. That said, we are open to alternative suggestions as to how this project can be accomplished.
