Introduction to Chatloop
Chatloop is a messaging app that helps people from refugee backgrounds to learn a new language. It connects these language learners to volunteer conversation partners for a drip feed of daily communication practice in the new language.
In the past, during Chatloop pilot studies, conversation partners were trained via a chatbot on Facebook Messenger, or via a learning management system (LMS). Now, we want to build this training into the Chatloop app itself.
Project outcomes
When this project is complete, a new volunteer partner will be able to navigate to a training page, choose a course to study, and work through that course at their own pace. Once they've finished enough of the courses, they'll be allowed to connect to language learners and start chatting with them.
This project is strictly for the back-end part of this functionality, which will deliver a microservice (Docker image) that provides data about a User's training progress.
Contentful
Chatloop uses a third-party service called Contentful to host the actual training. That is, the structure of the program, course, and module models are defined on Contentful, and the content of every program, course and module sits on a Contentful server. Contentful makes all this content available through API endpoints.
