1. For new projects, I recommend REST for most APIs because it's widely understood. While GraphQL would be more fun to work with, it's another technology that other developers would have to learn before they could contribute to the project. I would recommend GraphQL primarily for internal software where it can be articulated that the complexity it will remove is greater than the hurdle it will create. For existing projects, I would recommend keeping the API already in place until the benefit of replacing the API outweighs the cost. 2. I would generally recommend Javascript over Typescript for small to medium sized projects because it is more widely known. I would consider Typescript for large critical projects simply because it is statically typed; although, my final choice would depend on the experience of the team. While the debate over whether static or dynamic typing is more efficient rages on, it is my experience that static typing reaps more returns as the complexity of the project increases. Of course, for existing projects, I would recommend continuing to use whichever language is already in use, and only port it to another language if the project is expected to be in production long enough that the benefits of conversion exceed the immediate costs. 3. I would strongly recommend avoiding complex queries because they are costly to maintain.
