change jquery plugin

this is what i want to accomplish

i want to fit as much text as possible into those two columns

but when i am adding a class name or any html tags, it taking those characters and applying it them into the count of all characters, therefore it's pushing characters into the next element in this example

so if it doesn't add the html characters, i can just a link that takes as many characters as the anchor text and add as many class names as i need, if i want
