Extract info from Blender and/or 3D Max files (C#)

Hello, I have done some work with the 3ds max sdk in the past and I'm pretty sure you need it to parse .max files. With .3ds files I think it's just a text file, with this project what format are the blender and 3ds max files exported as? Regardless I think I should be able to create a nice interface for you to view these files.

I've worked extensively with Open Xml, the Microsoft office file formats for PowerPoint, Word and Excel. These are zip-based Xml formats, and the two file formats you have appear to be binaries, but I have worked with both Blender and 3D Studio Max, so I'm at least familiar with the nomenclature. I'm only going to commit to one of the formats (either one), because there's going to be some research involved in getting it done, and there will be some uncertainty. If, however, it moves fairly quickly, I'll deliver the other one - I won't nickel and dime you on it. My suspicion is that the work of parsing file format A will be 90% of the work of parsing file format B - the Blender folks are smart and they wouldn't have totally reinvented the wheel from the 3ds format.
