The storyboards are worth 15% of the total mark. They will help you think about the design of your prototype and get you thinking about the question and the different sections. Storyboards usually include screen shots and notes about what the sections do. Try to make the storyboards consistent. I.e. have the screen shots in the top half of the page and the information about the interaction etc in the bottom half. You should cover the whole project. Obviously certain sections will be very repetitive. So for example if two pages are the same ( this only happens in the courses section) then you only need to storyboard one page and simple say that all the other pages in that section have the same layout. You cannot do them by hand. I would suggest using Word or Powerpoint I have included some pages of good storyboards at the end to help you. I suggest that you get going on this as quickly as possible. They are not hard but they can be time-consuming. You are not obliged to stick to your storyboards for the actual project (though of course you should) If you do decide to completely change the design from what you put in your Storyboards then please e-mail me to let me know. Marking Scheme ?€? Do an overall organizational map on the first page to show the layout of all your pages. ?€? Consistent layout of the boards ( ie screen shots in one part, information in another) ?€? Completeness (i.e. that all pages are covered). Don?€™t forget things like the quit button, the MIAWs ?€? Relevant information (i.e. that each page details where all the content is going to go) You don?€™t need to actually put in the text or the pictures but I need to know where they will go on the page ?€? You need to show all the MIAWS (that is Movies in a window) ie these are the windows that open when you click on certain buttons. Show me where the MIAW will open and what the content will be ?€? Clear titling and organization of content. You want to make it as easy as possible for someone to pick up your boards and turn then into a working prototype. Think carefully about the developer. Tip ## Deliverables Please you dnt have to finish it i just need to pass it i can send you the making scheme. 1-What is a Splash Screen You will be producing a CD ROM about a promotional CD ROM for a Language School in Seville Spain. This is a real client and if the client decides to take up any of the ideas you will get a chance to visit Spain and finish the product off and stay in Seville for a few days The idea is that the CD ROM can be sent to agencies around the world to highlight CLIC language school as a premier language school. The Splash Screen introduces the theme of the CD. It should be lively and interesting and encourage the user to want to continue. The length should be about 25 seconds and strictly now more than 30 seconds. It must have the words ?€œCLIC ?€ included on the splash screen.. You are welcome to take any pictures, icons et that you like. I have provided you with some pictures and will add more in the next weeks 30 frames a second at normal speed so 30 seconds would be 900 frames of animation if you only use the timeline.? Do you need to use Lingo? No you don?€™t, you can get a good mark without Lingo but Lingo will make it much easier. Can we use the preset behaviours in the library files? You are welcome to use any of the pre-built behaviours ( these will be shown to you in week 3) but obviously it will be harder to get a good mark since you don?€™t have to do so much work. How should you design it? You choose the design. I will give you some ideas in the lectures. Most of the marks are given for good look and feel ie an interesting Splash screen, so you can let your imagination go. Look at current websites [login to view URL] Media I have provided you with the media. There are pictures, sound files etc. You are however welcome to add your own media. Make sure you keep the size down however. You can find these on Blackboard in the section called ?€œMedia?€ You may need to resize the pictures and reduce bit depth etc. of the media I have provided. You can do this in Director but it would be better to use an external editing tool like Photoshop Make use of the additional notes I have provided. You will lose marks for creating something with big file sizes. File size is important because Director is not that fast and large file sizes will slow it down. The splash screen must be limited to 3MB. Think carefully about file sizes, don?€™t use too many pictures, it normally doesn?€™t work. You want something slick and easy on the eye. Note ?€? Do not import any fonts.? ?€? Keep the animation to no more than 30 second ?€? You don?€™t have to use Lingo and you can get an A without using any Lingo in the Splash Screen but it would need to be excellent. Make it entertaining. Use music, animation etc.? ?€? The size should be 600 by 800 which you can set in the movie properties ?€? Don?€™t add any interactivity. It should just play on its own and after 30 seconds it should loop and start again ?€? You are limited to 3 MB but try and make it smaller, it will run much better ?€? Use the ideas and code I have provided you with ?€? You can use pre-built behaviours but obviously it is harder to get a good mark since you don?€™t have to do any of the mark ?€? The key though is to make it interesting, sharp, lively etc. ?€? Do not Shock the presentation. Hand it in on a CD. Make an executable file too and call it ?€œCLICexe and make a director file and call it ?€œDirector CLIC?€. ( this will be shown to you in the lectures too) The storyboards are worth 15% of the total mark. Please call the opening Director movie ?€œIndex?€ Please organize all your files correctly (ie pictures, images, text, etc should all be kept in clearly marked folders) Next week you will be given detailed information about how the main coursework is marked and how to approach it. There are several parts of the project that are quite difficult. I will point these out and hopefully make clear to you what the minimum requirement is and what things to do first last etc. I did this on previous courses and it worked well Section One-The Courses and Prices Information about different types of Spanish Courses. The information is provided in the text files. You organize the information as you see appropriate. This section will have several pages. Think carefully about how you navigate between the pages. Add pictures and keep the format consistent. In section one you should also be able to access information about the prices of the Spanish courses, so you will need a button called prices. The student should be able to type in or select the number of weeks he/she wants to study and then the type of course (intensive or standard) they want to study. By pressing a button the price should be output onto the stage. This will be dealt with in more details on the course. It is not necessary to implement a database; this can easily be done with lists. The following information needs to be provided. Students should be able to select the number of weeks and type of course and be told the exact price. Standard Intensive One week 500 700 Two weeks 670 900 Three weeks 1000 1200 Four weeks 1300 1400 Prices in Euros Section Two-Seville Interactive 1- Video A) The section on Seville should open with the introductory text on Seville and it should offer the video. The video should not play until the use presses the controls Video controls include ?€? Pause ( a pause button stops the movie and starts it again when pressed again) ?€? Play ?€? Rewind ?€? Stop (it stops the movie and jumps back to start) This provides information about the city. You should have the option of moving to two other parts within the Seville section. 2-Clickable Map You have both pictures and text about different parts of the city. There is a map of the centre and this should be made clickable so that by clicking parts of the map, information and pictures about that particular monument comes up ( you should include at least 4 clickable areas). This information should come up in MIAWs. So additional windows appear when you click on the four areas of the map. You only need to use one MIAW for the four sections. Be careful where the MIAW opens as you don?€™t want it to block the map. Tip One of the many ways you can make different sections of an image clickable is by using a transparent sprite. The clickable map should work with MIAWs ( Movies in a Window). So you won?€™t be able to do this part until we have covered this in the lectures 3-Picture Gallery C) I also want you to have a separate picture gallery so that people can look through a series of pictures. You may want to make this automatic ( ie it moves from one picture to another) It should have commentary ( you should save the commentary as a WAV file and then shock it or use the Speech engine). Use your imagination. The commentary should talk about the pictures. You could also have some text go along with the pictures. Perhaps you will have thumbnails that grow in size when you click on them or use a slider to make them grow. You may want the pictures to move across the screen. Think of an interesting design. You need a minimum of five pictures. Section three-CLIC Game Words should fall out of the sky. If the word is Spanish then the students have to click on it and it should then disappear. The player gets a point. However if the word is not Spanish and the player clicks on it then the player loses a point, again it should disappear. There will be a total of 15 words falling from the sky and when they have all fallen the game will end. Only one word can be falling from the sky at any time. Only 5 of the words are Spanish so the player can get a maximum of five points. The correct words falling from the Sky should be . If you click on these as you are falling you get minus one point 1. Hola 2. Adios 3. Hombre 4. Mujer 5. Libro Other words falling from the sky should be. If you click on these as they are falling you get minus one point 1. Night 2. Book 3. Voiture ( French) 4. Maison (French) 5. Suitcase 6. House 7. Car 8. Keyboard 9. Homme ( French) 10. Coach Section four Section four has quizzes about Seville, which should be done in English. There will be two types of quizzes.? Exercise One Students fill in the gaps by writing a word. After doing the five gaps they press a button to check their answers. The answers should not be provided at the top of the page They should be told how many they got correct out of five and it should clearly show which answers were correct and which answers were incorrect ( ie tick and cross or something like that).. You may want to do a calculation in percentages of the result or maybe have an gauge or indicator to show them how well they have done. You should be able to press a button to see the correct answers and you should be able to click another button to start the exercise again. Write the correct box in the gap. Then press the button to find out your score. 1. Seville is in _______________. 2. It has a tower called ________________ 3. Seville is the biggest city in the ______of Spain 4. The _______ in Seville is one of the biggest in the World. Exercise 2 This is a drag and drop exercise to test vocabulary. Students have to drag the correct word into place. There will be plenty of help in the lectures. You should allow students to drag the answer into the wrong field ( ie it should not just snap back if you dragged the wrong answer into one of the boxes). How are you going to deal with users who drag the boxes to the other parts of the screen? What about if they drag it near to the answer but not exactly in the box? You should build in a snap facility. So as soon as the box touches the bounding area, it will snap into the area. If you drag to the wrong place on the screen it should bounce back to its original position Tips There will be bonus marks if you can make sure that if an answer is already dragged into place and you have to drag another answer in, then the first answer comes out and goes back to its starting position. Drag these words into the correct box Plaza NuevA 1992 Giralda Isla Magica Maria Luisa 1. Seville hosted the World Exposition in ______________ 2. The tower that sits by the Cathedral is called the ____________ 3. The large square in the centre of the town is known as _______________ 4. The large park next to America Square is called _________________ 5. There is a theme park in the city known as _____________________ Answers 1. 1992 2. Giralda 3. Plaza Nueva 4. Maria Luisa 5. Isla Magica Other areas of the movie Buttons Should be used to move around movie. How many button states you offer is a matter of taste but buttons that deal with all states will gain extra marks. This will be clearly laid out in the marking scheme (moueOver, mouseDown, mouseClicked, dimmed state etc) Button-information/sounds Make sure the when the user puts the cursor over a button the user is given clear information about what the button does or where it takes you. ie a mouseOver should result in additional text information telling the user what that button does. This is typical of most web sites and CD ROMs. You may want to add button sounds too. Again there are marks for this ( see marking guide) Help A help section should be provided that gives users some information about how to use the movie. It should be in the form of a short video that explains how the CD works. You only need to explain how to do the basic navigation. When the help is open, the rest of the movie should not function. You can make a short video where you record yourself navigating the system at www.screencorder.net. I will show you how to do this in class The MODAL Internet There should be a button you can click on which will take you to the Click homepage of their internet site [login to view URL] Navigation A navigation map offers the user the chance to jump to any section of the movie. It should therefore offer the user a diagrammatic/pictorial view of the site and the images/texts etc should allow the user to jump to certain sections. So when I have the navigation screen open, I should be able to jump to any section of the screen. Again it should be a MIAW.? Back button A back button should also be provided that takes you back to the last page visited. The user should therefore be able to keep clicking on the back button and slowly move through all the pages he/she has visited. Drop down menu A drop down menu should be provided that offers certain control elements. You should also provide mouseKey shortcuts to operate the elements in the drop down menu. The four controls should be the following. ?€? Sound on/off ?€? Quit ?€? Home ( takes you back to home/start page of the movie) ?€? Seville ( takes you to the section about Seville) You need just one drop down menu list with four elements in it Quit button If the user wants to quit the whole movie then they should press the quit button. However it should not quit immediately. Rather the user should be asked ?€œAre you sure you want to quit? They should be given the choice to say yes or no. Sound controls You can choose any background music you want. Some examples will be provided for you if you don?€™t want to look for your own. You decide how to implement the background music. You may have it playing all the time or in specific parts of the movie. There should be a volume control for the sound as well as a button to turn the sound on and off. The volume control could be a slider. All the sounds controls should be in a MIAW that you can open.? Media You are free to choose other buttons. I have provided you with a fair selection. You should use the text provided though. You can use other pictures from the CLIC site as you see fit and you can also use the pictures I have provided you with. An extensive range of sounds have been provided as well as some background music. If you want you are free to choose your own. Students that compress images, sounds, video and who produce there own media will be looked on favorably 1-Storyboards 15 % of total mark The storyboards are worth 15% of the total mark.
