Hi,
Our application is a Digital Signage Media Player Client.
It's main job is to talk to the server via XML-RPC which instructs it which media files to download to a local cache. Once downloaded it communicates with an embedded Adobe Flash Control, passing an XML playlist of the media files it should play.
We want to create a Linux (Ubuntu?) version of this application so we can avoid having to buy a windows license for our Media Players.
So, the job is pretty straightforward... pretty much copy the code to Java and run it on Linux.
Some of the tasks it performs:
1) XML-RPC to the server to download a [login to view URL] file
2) XML-RPC to the server to determine what it should be playing
3) XML-RPC to the server to download a [login to view URL] file
4) Download the files specified in the [login to view URL] file
5) Send [login to view URL] file to Embedded Flash Control
6) Simulate a mouse click on the Embedded Flash Control to make it 'full screen'
7) XML-RPC send status messages to the server
8) XML-RPC respond to requests to reset client, restart machine, download new client, clear local cache etc.
So... if you've got experience in converting C# applications... or if you're a java / linux guru and want to build the client from scratch.. get in touch.
I should note that we're developers ourselves and could probably spend a week hacking about getting it going. So we're not looking for a software house to come in with a huge quote to get the job done. We'll look at reasonable requests from those people with experience. I imagine 1 - 2 weeks would be plenty and as you've got the existing c# code (and can ask us any questions you need) it should be pretty easy.
Thanks
