Develop Website around google calendar and blog

Looking to take my current website [login to view URL] and simply it. Currently, I am using vbulletin & photopost and vbadvanced and the users are finding things too complicated. The reality is that my message forums are not used and the most important part of the site is the event calendar. I would like to do the following: 1. Create a wordpress blog on my server 2. Develop site similar to the one at [login to view URL] (theme - colors etc; upcoming events, calendar, weather module, etc.), but using web 2.0 apps) Have you developed anything that has a strong event calendar and membeship - where the members can rsvp for events, get event reminders, etc.
