We are exploring options for being able to present a PDF file to a user and highlight text based on a search filter using regular expression or simple text search. The search must be made programmatically, meaning that the highlighting is controlled by .NET code.
We would also need to eventually need to highlight entire rows and add context menus that pop out when you hover over the highlighted text but that is beyond the scope of what we are asking for initially. I only specify that so that you can keep it in mind as you build your design.
For this project, we simply want a text box to enter search text or a regular expression in. Then as you type into the field the matching text will be highlighted in the PDF file. See my mockup in the attachment, I typed in "Date" and it highlights the word Date everywhere in the document.
We would like this to be implemented in C# using .NET libraries and be displayed in a web page. The design needs to be very responsive, so that as we type we can see the text being highlighted. Any design that requires having to download the file, modify it, then present it again would be too slow.
