We wish to build a relatively simple Firefox extension. The functionality required is described below: 1) The extension will be available as a button in the users toolbar. It will be installable using standard Firefox installation methods. 2) Upon invoking the extension the extension will scrape the textual content of the page into a string. Only textual data should be collected ??" all HTML formatting, etc must be removed 3) The text string will be passed to our web services application. Documentation for this application can be found at [login to view URL] and [login to view URL] 4) The SWS web service will return formatted XML indicating the people, organizations, geographies and companies in the text. The extension should support a developer-configurable timeout value for this call. 5) The extension should process this XML and format a pop-up window with a tree-navigation structure for each entity (person, organization, company, geography). The tree should indicate the number of instances of each entity located within the tree (similar to Outlook mail folders). 6) Expanding the tree would reveal the individual items within that entity. Each item should be right clickable and invoke a “search in google??, “search in A9??, “search in MSN?? set of choices. Clicking on one of these choices should invoke the appropriate hyperlink. 7) The display and search function should be extensible for additional entities in the future. It should be driven by the content of the XML returned from the web services call.
