Codeigniter project, friend system on ready site

Add a friend system in a codeigniter site similar to Google+ circles but a user will be able to assign his friends to more than one circles and he will be able to create his own circle. This of course has to be accomodated with a profiling system similar to that of Twitter's with photo, Real name, username and short self description.
