I am having a VS 2005 setup project, which creates an msi, containing files, msm's, etc.
Problem: My project dynamically creates a folder structure in the \bin folder, from where the setup project takes its input. The setup project includes all files except for the folder structure.
What I cannot do:
1. Include all files in the folder structure one-by-one, so the structure gets copied. - There are too many files and these change from build to build, so this solution is not viable.
2. Mark the files as Content (or embedded resource), so they get copied. - This is not possible, because some files are generated by an external tool, and some are solution files which cannot be marked as Content.
What I would prefer to be done:
- Build a custom action, which copies all contents of a specific folder from the \bin directory to the \Programs\etc directory to which the project is deployed.
What I would do only in an emergency:
- If a native solution isn't possible, I would also consider building custom tools, one which zips the folder structure, so I can include it, and one which unzips it at the final destination. But something like this should be the last result if nothing native is possible.
If you have a solution, for me it's fine if you build a demo project, write a documentation or walk me through the whole thing. Please let me know if your solution is native or works with external tools. (I reserve the right not to select non-native approaches.)
