The big question is the degree of accuracy. Probably the way to build this is with a series of magnet wire coils that could turn on and off producing an appropriate magnetic field. It strikes me that the magnet will may want to flip over, so there may be a need to design around that problem. Possibly having power go to multiple coils in a given region each with varying magnetic fields. I'm not certain what the final working version will look like, but it my guess is you may have to go through numerous iterations of this before you are able to get it to do what it sounds like you're trying to do. I worked on a project last year that is similar to this. I did the microcontroller side of the largest vending machine in the world! Google: "North Street Labs Vending Machine" and you'll find a video. It's HUGE. If you look close you'll see electric relays that controlled roughly 700 solenoids. I think what you're looking for is actually fairly similar, just one a much smaller scale. I have many years of experience modeling with Solidworks and engineering. In addition to just drawing in Solidworks it's important to find someone who has also done CNC machining from a drawing. I am also well versed in Shopbot CNC machines and can help you not only draw your part but draw it in such a way that it can be easily and inexpensively machined. I have access to multiple CNC milling machines once your project is complete I can give you an estimate to machine the parts for your prototype.
